5 Ways to Keep Your Teeth Healthier and Whiter in 2018

If you are the type of person who likes to make resolutions at the beginning of the year, then it won’t hurt if you put dental hygiene as one of the things to observe in 2018. Here is an overview of the tips you can use to make your teeth healthier and whiter throughout 2018.

Check What You Eat

Pretty much everything in your body depends on what foods you eat, including your teeth. Make sure you only eat the right foods. Avoid sticky, chewy and crunchy foods such as chocolate bars, potato crisps and gums. Also, avoid foods that contain a lot of sugar and acid. Your tooth enamel will suffer if you expose your teeth to constant acidic environments.

Brush and Floss and Regularly

Many people don’t brush or floss properly. When you fail to brush or floss properly, you leave a lot of food particles on the surface and between the teeth. Over time, these food particles accumulate and create a plaque. The plaque can grow and cause the gums to separate from the teeth, leading to constant bleeding. Make sure you brush at least twice a day, preferably before you retire to bed and after breakfast. Also, floss once in a while to remove food particles that might be lodged between the teeth.

Go for Regular Checkups

One of the most important parts of your new year’s dental health resolution is to go for regular checkups. Regular checkups enable you to identify potential dental problems before they advance to unmanageable conditions. Prevention is better than cure, so don’t ignore the importance of dental checkups. Go for checkups at least once a year.

Use a Natural Mouthwash

If you have not been using a mouth wash, then 2018 is your year to buy one. There are several mouthwashes out there, but apple cider vinegar has proved to be the best. Gargle some of it every morning before you brush your teeth. It will get rid of stains from your teeth, remove bacteria and whiten the teeth.

Choose the Right Toothbrush

Do not use a toothbrush with hard bristles because it will irritate your gums and cause bleeding. Instead, use a brush with soft bristles but not too soft. Also, make it a habit of changing your toothbrush after every two months. Over time, bacteria settles on the bristles. You will be transferring more bacteria in your mouth if you use the brush for a long time.
